My son Christian joined the swim team when he was six years old. Naturally, he couldn't compete for the first few years but wanted to join the team like his older brothers. I can still remember his first time taking the plunge into 'the big pool'. I think it took him about 20 minutes to get across. I was holding my breath through most of it, he was so small and that pool was so big. But just as soon as he hit the wall, he scurried up the ladder as fast as he could to get back in line for his next lap.
I have been thinking about the New Year and this story came to mind. For Christian, in the following years the pool got smaller (he grew to 6'3) and he got faster, but he kept running to that starting block.
I'm starting to feel the same way. The pool is getting smaller, and treading water has turned to swimming ahead. Thanks for being a part of our progression and for your continued support this year. Your cheers keep us afloat.
