ONE WEEK FLOWER CHALLENGE

TAKE THE ONE WEEK FLOWER CHALLENGE:  Put a small flowering plant or one blooming flower in a vase in a place where you spend most of your time.  After a week of enjoying your flowers on your desk or kitchen table take them away and notice how you feel.  You'll miss having them near you.  Flowers give us hope and remind us of the feeling we get when we spend time outside, they rejuvinate us.
I've worked with flowers for many years and I am still amazed at the beauty, perfection and color that I see in one single rose.  Let me know what you think, enjoy!

EASTER AND SPRING FLOWERS SYMBOLIZING REBIRTH

As a child one of my favorite things was to take a walk to Mr. Shore's house to see his garden.  I was all but four or five years old, but I remember thinking that it was the most beautiful place.  He didn't have a lawn like most neighbors, his home was surrounded by flowering trees, plants and bushes.  He gardened as if it was his life's work, it probably was in a way.  When someone pours so much love into something such as a flower garden, you cannot help but feel the loving energy that comes from it.  I know he planted a seed in me, thus my love of flowers was formed.
I love SPRING!  The colors, the sounds, the fragrances all make me feel more alive.  The earliest spring flowers are starting to come up now and you will see many more as we approach Easter.
Pansies (Thoughts of you, thoughtfulness), Crocus and Daffodils (rebirth, new beginnings and eternal life).
Easter Lilies are said to have bloomed at the sight of Christ's crucifixion were drops of his blood hit the ground.  During Easter you will find Easter Lilies adorning church altars as a symbol of rebirth, love and the resurrection.
Hydrangea (gratitude) are beautiful balls of tiny flowers that form a large flowering head.  You will find them in white, pink, purple and blue.  There are even lacy varieties and hydrangea trees that make beautiful additions to any garden.
Tulips in a mixed bunch would mean fame or perfect love.  Specific take on their own meaning.  Red tulips for "believe me" true love.  Yellow tulips mean "there is sunshine in your smile" and cheerful thoughts.  White tulips symbolize heaven, purity and newness.  Pink tulips for caring.  Purple for royalty.  Orange for enthusiasm.

HERE COMES THE SUN!

We can all use a little Springtime at this point and it's starting to show.  Keep your eyes open for the first blooms of spring, crocus and daffodils are starting to come up.  Forsythia bushes will start to bud and we will all feel a little more hopeful that nature will be greener very soon.

Inside the flower shop I have been thinking spring with cut tulips, daffodils, hyacinth and budding gardenia plants.  It's been a long winter and I am looking forward to opening the windows and letting the fresh air and sunshine in!

AFFORDABLE WEDDING CENTERPIECES

Florist tips for ordering wedding centerpieces on a budget.

STAY LOW     For many years the trend has been to use high centerpieces that are raised up on stands.
The cost of renting flower stands or having to purchase tall glass vases lessens the amount of money you have to spend on your flowers.

MONO FLORA      Using one type of flower will allow your florist to purchase the flowers at a better wholesale price for larger quantity, in turn helping to keep your costs down.  Even an arrangement containing three different flowers will be less expensive than one containing five or six different varieties.  The smaller the quantity ordered wholesale, the higher the flower cost to your florist.  Adding more varieties to your centerpiece will result in more labor costs.

DON'T BE A FLOWER SNOB      It's all a matter of taste so if your favorite flower is a tulip, go for it.  They are much less expensive that roses, calla lilies, or orchids and make a graceful presentation when arranged.  Tulips are also available in a wide range of colors and varieties.  The same can be said for many other budget friendly flowers such as alstormeria, daisies and carnations.

Hope this is helpful.  Let me know what you think!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARCH

The birth flower for March is the Daffodil.  Typically seen in yellow, daffodils can grow in yellow and white or yellow and orange.  Planted as bulbs in the fall, daffodils are one of the earliest spring blooms.
The language of flowers was used as far back as the Victorian Era to communicate a message without words.  Daffodils have an associated meaning of rebirth, regard, unequalled love and unrequited love.

Cut daffodils and  daffodil plants are available during March from your local florist.

DON'T FORGET TO THINK SPRING!
